The Future of Computing

Jeff Han at TED2006Jeff Han is at it again. He’s the focus of a feature story in Fast Company‘s February issue. They’ve also posted an unbelievable new demo video of his touchscreen technology.

Remember the hype surrounding Ginger a few years ago? Steve Jobs, as I recall, said something like “They’ll architect cities around it.” Never mind his annoying use of architect as a verb; Ginger was a bore. The Segway is a glorified scooter that hasn’t, and probably never will, really catch on.

Jeff Han’s touchscreen technology, on the other hand, might really change the way we “do” computing. It makes the term “human-computer interaction” make sense. The thought of standing up to work (which I prefer anyway) at a screen the size of a poster makes me very happy. And watching Han et. al. manipulate photos, type, surf Wikipedia and more makes me practically giddy.

Santa? Are you reading this?
